October 2016 The reason for a war novel:
This book is based on the experiences of my own father: Martien Franken. But also, on the stories I was allowed to hear when I was with him and his
German friend Willy Grewe. When we drove back home, I could still talk to Pa about the war. Until we reached the border, from then on there was
silence about that period from his past.
I asked and got permission from my mother to record everything in a book: "That's good son, then at least Pa's story will be preserved."
